Design 1142 Zwerver II
Yesterday I posted an article about Zwerver (I) built in 39. Here is Zwerver II built for the same Dutch owner in 1956. The boat was built at the de Vlitj Shipyard of Westeinder, Holland. Immediately after her launching in 1956, Zwerver II began demonstrating her winning ways, taking first place in that year’s Fastnet Race.
The boat is constructed of African mahogany, carvel planked (single) on galvanized steel frames. Fastenings are of silicon bronze. The backbone is of white oak. Deck beams are teak with teak deck overlaid.
The boat was completely refit from the frames on up in 2000 by Jachthavenbedrijf Bouwmeester of Amsterdam. She then participated in a number of major ocean races including Middle Sea Race, 2 Fastnets, Transatlantic and more.

Recently the boat was shipped to America and has participated in the classic yacht regatta circuit around New England, with much success. She just recently competed in the Newport to Bermuda Race Heres an image of the boat today.
